From magma to lava – a look inside the Earth, volcanism, and volcanic regions.
A volcano in the middle of southern Hesse? That was nothing unusual 48 million years ago. The Messel Pit tells us a lot about maar volcanoes and plate tectonics – or simply about how the world has changed since the Eocene epoch.
Topics: Earth sciences (regional geology, volcanism)
Our offerings are based on the curriculum of the state of Hesse and can be booked in two formats:
The school programme lasts two hours and is more educational and informative. The program takes place exclusively in the mine.
The workshop lasts a total of three hours and combines a one-hour mine tour with a two-hour practical module for active participation. Only bookable from March to October.
