Searching for traces of a bygone world
Is the Messel Pit a volcano? Was Hesse really located in a tropical climate zone with rainforests? On a journey 47 million years back in time, children explore the Eocene epoch after the extinction of the dinosaurs. They learn about fossilized animal and plant remains. They find out where and how primitive horses, giant ants, and crocodiles lived and why there are so many well-preserved fossils in Messel.
Recommended for children between the ages of 8 and 12.
Approx. 3 km, 60 meters elevation gain, up to 12% gradient.
€130 for 13 people plus €11 for each additional participant (max. 20 participants).
The children’s expedition can only be booked by private groups.
